High-temperature heat pumps: Market overview, state of the art, research status, refrigerants and application potentials

High-temperature heat pumps with flow temperatures of 90 to 160° C are becoming increasingly important in the process industry.
The greatest potential for applications is in the food, paper, metal and chemical industries for heat recovery and providing process heat above 100° C (e.g., steam generation, sterilization, evaporation processes).

A review article published recently in the Journal of Energy provides a good overview of the state of the art and current research activities in the high temperature area.
